Business
From 2002-2011, I founded and served as President and CEO of Terra Cognita Software Systems, Inc. We identified, attracted and employed more than a dozen extremely talented team members from across the country who delivered results for our customers in Northern BC. The Prince George Chamber of Commerce recognized the excellence of that work with four Business Excellence Awards in that decade.
Community
I was seconded, then volunteered for two years as the Acting Executive Director at Hubspace during the pandemic. We developed a remarkable team of staff, moved to a new location, and together generated nearly $5 Mn in revenue, investment and jobs for small businesses in Northern BC.
I am moving into my third year as co-Chair of Operation Red Nose for the Rotary Club of Prince George Nechako. Each year we are honoured with a strong cohort of volunteers from all over the community, who keep people safe while generating substantial donations for kids charities in our city.
Government
As a long time Councillor, I have been selected by my peers to Chair Finance and Audit (2014-2022) and Intergovernmental Affairs (2022-2026). During each of those leadership roles, we have secured significant wins by making sure each team member was engaged and involved in the work of the committee.
From 2010-2021, I volunteered as an elected Councillor to the Board of the Federation of Canadian Muncipalities, which represents all the cities and communities of Canada from Coast to Coast to Coast. In that time we secured big wins with multiple federal governments, from ensuring the gas tax was an ongoing commitment, to being indexed to inflation, to increases in housing, rail safety, and infrastructure dollars.
This peaked in 2020 when the representatives chose me as President during the pandemic. I led a team that secured unprecedented support from the federal government for municipalities, including:
"Safe Restart" operating funds -$8.6 Bn
doubling of Canada Community Building Fund (Gas Tax) -$2.1 Bn
public transit projects -$14.9 Bn
permanent transit fund -$3 Bn/year
the Rapid Housing Initiative -$2.5 Bn; and
the expansion of the Universal Broadband Fund -$2.75 Bn
Locally, that advocacy meant $6 Mn in money for Prince George in a discretionary "Safe Restart" fund we were able to use for our own local priorities.
